Released back in 2013 as an exclusive Wii U launch title, Ubisoft’s survival horror game Zombi U is coming to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, getting its name changed to just ‘Zombi’.
received generally favorable reviews
and was one of the Wii U’s strongest launch games, with one of its biggest draws being the use of the Wii U Gamepad’s second screen functionality to instill a sense of fear and imminent danger.
The PS4, Xbox One and PC versions of the game won’t have such functionality, but they will make up for it by other means. Zombi
producer Hélène Henry stated:
“We maintain a minimal HUD as much as possible. It disappears when not required, giving the game a very lonely feeling. If you have surround sound, the awesome sound mix from the original still stands and greatly helps immersion. As much as possible, we’ve tried to keep those key elements.
Also, there has been a slight increase in the field of view and players can increase and decrease it a little if they want to, but not so much that it takes away that claustrophobic feeling. Some work was also undertaken on the control mapping and response to improve the look and feel of the first-person movement.”
Unfortunately, Zombi U
’s single-system multiplayer, which allowed one player to use the Gamepad to place hordes of zombies to impede the survivor, won’t be featured in Zombi
for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. On the bright side, the superior computing graphical and computing capabilities of the three systems will give the game better graphics.
Players will also have two new melee weapons to play with -- the shovel and the nail bat -- both of which offer a greater range and higher damage respectively than the cricket bat.
The flashlight has also changed and now allows players to switch to a different beam that, although lets you see further, drains battery life faster and attracts zombies more easily.
Zombi comes to the PS4, Xbox One and PC on August 18, 2015. Will you be getting it?
