Killer Instinct Xbox One, characters

Thanks to Killer Instinct for the Xbox One and its new ‘Shadow Mode’, you can now fight yourself and kick your own ass in a fighting game.

The new Killer Instinct launched in 2013 with solid visuals, interesting characters and, most importantly, amazing gameplay; however, it was a bit light on features. With its second season now virtually wrapped up, it offers some of the most interesting features you will find in a fighting game, past or present. Shadow Mode, in particular, studies the way you play the game -- i.e. your combos, footsies, mix-ups, mistakes, and overall habits -- and uses the information gathered to make a CPU character (Shadow) that fights exactly like you! MUST SEE: Final Boss Aria Arrives in KI Season 2, She Wants You to Evolve or Die! With the innovative gameplay mode, you spar against yourself to discover your personal strengths and weaknesses and adjust your fighting style accordingly. You can fight against the Shadow of other Killer Instinct players as well. Xbox Wire broke down Shadow Mode as follows:
  • Shadow Survival: Lets you quickly experience fighting styles from the community and create rivalries with people you’ve never known. You will be able to earn ‘Shadow Points’ and issue ‘Bounties’ to players you’ve beaten to encourage them to get revenge!
  • Shadow Challenge: Lets you challenge someone’s Shadow to win Shadow Points. The stronger and higher-ranked the opponent, the bigger the payoff!
  • Shadow Leaderboards: Brand new Leaderboards developed just for Killer Instinct Shadow Mode, allowing you to sort the best Shadows by character type and find the top Shadow Survival scores to see who’s on top!
  • Shadow Data: Lets you dig deeper into the brain of your Shadow and learn how the system has analyzed you and copied how you play. You can also see how many recordings you have, and even Spar against your Shadow.
The idea of Shadow Mode is awesome; however, whether or not it will be well-received by the Killer Instinct community, as well as the fighting game community overall, will depend on how well it works. Let us know what you about it in the comments below. Are you ready to finally kick your own ass?
