Sony is reportedly considering eventually bringing the PlayStation VR to PC once everything with the PlayStation 4 version is sorted out.
The fact that the current-gen consoles like the PlayStation 4 have a similar architecture to that of an off-the-shelf PC means PlayStation VR could, in theory, be easily made to work on a PC.
Sony Computer Entertainment Senior Vice President Masayasu Ito told
Japanese newpaper Nikkei that the company is considering making the headset available on PC but that “nothing will happen right away.” He stated:
“Since Playstation 4 shares a lot of its internals with PCs, the possibility is there. At the moment we are focused on games and we are not ready to make any announcements at this stage, but I’d say there will be an expansion into various fields.”
The current state of VR tech on PC leaves room for a more affordable headset, even if that option isn’t as high-end as what Rift or Vive offer.
