Publisher Take-Two and developer Rockstar Games have renewed their trademark for ‘Agent’, a video game we haven’t heard much about for many years. Their renewal was discovered on the United States Patent and Trademark Office website.
Agent was announced way back in 2009 exclusively for the PlayStation 3 and is a spy thriller set during the Cold War. Whether or not it is under development remains to be seen, but the patent renewal seems to point to it.
Developer Rockstar skipped the new IP over to work on Red Dead Redemption
and Grand Theft Auto 5
, but now might be its chance to finally see the light of day.
There are quite a few games that have come back from the dead. The Last Guardian
was thought to be a loss cause, but Sony is now committed to releasing it for the PS4 in 2016, while Final Fantasy Versus XIII
was rebranded as Final Fantasy XV
and then released.
It would be interesting to see if Take-Two’s trademark will finally lead to an Agent
