New details about Nintendo’s mysterious NX console have emerged and it will reportedly be based on Google’s Android operating system.
According to an article published by Japan’s Nikkei
, which was found and translated by NeoGAF user Duckroll, Nintendo’s use of an “operating system loaded with Android…would be able to speed up getting all game developers on board,” and possibly attract new third party developers.
Basing NX off Android software should also grant developers greater flexibility in creating games for mobile devices
, such as smartphones and tablets. The decision goes hand-in-hand with Nintendo’s partnership with Japanese mobile gaming company DeNA and their plan to develop smartphone games featuring iconic your favorite Nintendo characters.
More so than any other Nintendo console, it seems the NX will be heavily influenced by the mobile market...
Gamers have criticised the video game company for supposedly losing its vision and passion for creating iconic games because of a move to mobile gaming, so a “dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept” like the NX could go a long way to prove that the company hasn’t lost its way.
What do think about the NX and Nintendo’s move towards mobile games? Should we be worried?
