Those who can’t wait to play Minecraft 2 have a long wait ahead of them, because it seems the game hasn’t even been planned.
In an interview with IGN
at Gamescom 2015, Mojang’s CEO Jonas Martensson revealed that the developer hasn’t even started discussions of a sequel, going as far as to say that a new game in the series will not be released in the “foreseeable future.”

Martensson believes Minecraft is still so popular that it will be played for the next several years or so, and he’s not entirely wrong. Despite releasing way back in 2009, the game continues to be a best seller on every platform it has been released on.
Even so, there are big plans for the franchise. TellTale Games -- the creator of the popular Walking Dead game -- is working on the story mode for Minecraft, while a movie is in development.
