Microsoft Stops Selling Original Xbox One Console

Posted by GameTribute Staff on

The original Xbox One has gone out of stock for the last time -- Microsoft is no longer selling in the United States, most likely Canada and elsewhere around the world.

The tech giant now only offers the Xbox One S and Xbox One X at its online store, with only a few refurbished models of the original Xbox One available.

Launched in the fourth quarter of 2013, the VCR-resembling original Xbox One didn’t quite live up to the sales expectation that Microsoft had hoped for it, being outsold twofold by the PlayStation 4 as a result of being $100 more expensive and Microsoft’s mixed messaging.

Microsoft closed the price gap by unbundling the Kinect sensor from the Xbox One six months after launch, but the damage had already been done, with the PS4 poised to win this gaming generation.

Microsoft has since shifted focus to the Xbox One S and Xbox One X, both of which have been praised for their hardware and more sleek designs.

Are you sad to see the original Xbox One go? If you own one, are you considering holding onto in light of the Xbox One S and, soon, the Xbox One X existing? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
