With Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain now out on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC, the leadership tenure of series creator Hideo Kojima has come to an end.
As a reminder, internal conflicts over delays, compensation and the like between publisher Konami and Kojima resulted in irreconcilable differences that forced the legendary video game developer to part ways with the company. So bad was the clash that Konami removed Kojima’s name from the box art of Metal Gear Solid V
It’s a heart-breaking end to one of the gaming world’s most successful partnerships; however, it hasn’t completely dampened Kojima’s spirits. Not only has Metal Gear 5: The Phantom Pain
been receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews, but the ordeal doesn't mark the end of his game-making years.
In a video titled ‘Debriefing’, Hideo Kojima and some of the most prominent and influential critics in the industry sat down to discuss the major influence Metal Gear
has had on gaming. He briefly states:
“Rest assured that I’ve been working on making MGS V the best that it can possible be, balancing and tweaking it right until the very end... Players will not be disappointed. I am sorry we took so long, but I feel we’ve created something very special, and I hope everyone will enjoy it.”
