Mass Effect 4 is not a prequel as previously rumored, with developer BioWare revealing that it’s neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Mass Effect trilogy.
The gaming world has been calling the next Mass Effect game 'Mass Effect 4', a name that hasn’t been officialized by the Canadian studio. Chris Wynn, Senior Development Directo, specifically stated on twitter
“Not a prequel, not necessarily a sequel either”
When asked what Mass Effect 4
will be called, he said “Can’t say when yet.” As such, the highly-anticipated sci-fi game
will continue to be known as Mass Effect 4
by the gaming world until a name has been finalized.

Getting back on topic, if Mass Effect 4
is not a prequel or a sequel, could it be a reboot? Publisher EA has already rebooted Star Wars Battlefront
and Need for Speed, so that idea is not all that farfetched.
All we are saying is that don’t be surprised if Mass Effect 4
ends up taking place between the events of the first three games, much like what was done with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
, a game that was also not really a sequel or prequel.
So, if Mass Effect 4
is not a prequel or a sequel, what do you think it will be? Let us know in the comments below.
