Having left his mark on the world of video games, Hideo Kojima is now looking far and beyond. The Metal Gear Solid creator is reportedly creating a transmedia franchise that he hopes will go big.
” his long-time career at Konami in 2015 to become an indie developer that recently signed a deal with Sony. In a lengthy interview with Gamespot
, he said:
“With Sony, we are working on a project that will be a new IP. Of course, and I have no idea if it’s going to be a series or not, but I want to make something that will have a big enough impact to become a series.”
By ‘impact’, Kojima means he’d like to see the game’s characters and world lead into projects beyond gaming, “such as anime, manga, figures.”
The man’s love for cinema, anime and action figures is well-documented, and he probably always wanted Metal Gear Solid
to spin off more transmedia and merchandise than a rather restrictive Konami let him.
Now that he is unconstrained by the dictates of executive bean-counting, Kojima is free to do just about anything he wants. We can’t wait to see what new world his crazy mind comes up with.
