Electronic Arts used E3 2015 to announce a new video game series called Unravel, an indie game with a LittleBigPlanet vibe to it.
, Unravel is a yarn-based puzzle platformer with detailed, side-scrolling levels. Unlike LittleBigPlanet
, however, you go on a beautiful adventure in a creepily realistic yet serene world.
In fact, Unravel
has such amazing graphics that it manages to eclipses the likes of Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst
and Star Wars: Battlefront
visually! It might also have better physics.
The main character is aptly called “Yarnie,”a curious little fella that literally strings along from point A to point B. Watch him in action in the following gameplay video...
Like Ubisoft, EA -- a company best known for its sports games and first-person shooters -- has expressed a strong desire to offer more low-key titles, and Unravel is just one of many indie games it has in store for gamers.
In an interview with Game Informer, Executive Vice President Patrick Söderlund touched upon the desire to push the boundaries with external teams such as Unravel developer Coldwood, stating:
"For me, it’s about not necessarily where EA has been, but what we should become. I believe that we have a responsibility as game developers to push new things, whether that’s internal or external. I believe in bringing a great game to players out there when we see one and have the opportunity to sign one. We will continue to seek great ideas and great teams, whether they are internal or external. Unravel was something that crossed my desk. When I saw it, I said we had to get this."
is developed for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and is likely to appeal to those who like platform-style games like LittleBigPlanet and Limbo. Does it interest you?
