Alone in the Dark and Haunted House, two classics from the 80s and 90s, are getting a reboot. Atari is hard at work on re-imagining the two horror games. Developed in 1992, the original Alone in the Dark was the first ever 3D survival horror game and is the inspiration behind most modern-day games in the genre. A reboot of the game was released on the PC, Playstation 2 and 3, Xbox 360 and Wii in 2008. According to Atari's promotional website, the new reboot, "Alone in the Dark: Illumination", is being developed by a studio called Pure FPS and could be ready before the end of 2014. The original Haunted House preceded Alone in the Dark by a decade and is one of the earliest examples of the survival horror genre. Its latest reboot is being developed by the Italian studio Dreampainters, the studio responsible for PC horror game Anna. Both the new Haunted House and Alone in the Dark are expected to help restore Atari's position as a premier producer of horror games. The success of titles like Outlast and Amnesia: A machine for pigs has proven that the genre is still alive and kicking.
