The highly-anticipated Assassin’s Creed movie will release in theaters on December 21, 2016, just one week after the first Star Wars spinoff film launches. It will be directed by Justin Kurzel and star Oscar-nominated actor Michael Fassbender (young Magneto from X-Men: Days of Future Past).
Based on the hit series from developer Ubisoft, the Assassin’s Creed
movie was originally scheduled to release in August of 2015 and rumored
to star Robert Downey Jr. as supporting character Leonardo da Vinci. While there has been nothing released about the film’s plot and full list of cast members, Fassbender himself has confirmed that it will be respectful to the franchise’s style and lore and will bring new elements to the series.
CHECK OUT: Next Assassin’s Creed is Set in London, England
is not the only movie under development by Ubisoft. Watch Dogs
, Splinter Cell
, and Far Cry
are all slated to get their own movies.
There is a long wait until December 21, 2016, but fans of the stealth series will still get their Assassin’s Creed fix in 2015 when the next game -- Assassin’s Creed Victory
-- launches in the fall on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It is set in 19th century London and, like Assassin’s Creed Unity
, will not be available on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 4 and especially the Wii U.
