Mention "Doom" and we get memories of the 90s. The franchise thought to have ushered in the popularity of the first-person shooter genre has been relevant since the Virtual Boy. But that may soon change... At this year's QuakeCon, id Software revealed that a new Doom was upon us. No screenshots or details were released, but Geoff Keighley, host of GameTrailers TV, posted on his twitter that the new game -- internally called “Doom” -- is an origin game set outside of UAC research facility on a planet Mars threatened by forces of evil. Like the original, its gameplay will be fast-paced, with melee combat being an integral part of the experience. It's too early for speculations, but considering how well-respected the original Doom was, we imagine id will do everything in its power to return the series to its former glory with the new game. We have high hopes for the new Doom.
