9. Battlefield 1942 (2002)
I remember my first time playing Battlefield 1942 — I was so overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the game that I had to take a step back to take it all in. The possibilities it granted players in its realistic World War 2 setting were mind-blowing.
Just about every prominent weapon, vehicle (including tanks), plane, and ship of WW2 could be manned and used to their fullest potential. You either strategized with whatever tools you and your team had or you died. Simply put, Battlefield 1942 was the full realization of the scale and danger of WW2.
Released in 2013, Battlefield 4 is a successful modern interpretation of this iconic shooter. Check it out if you can.
