The Nintendo NX rumor mill continues to churn with news that Super Smash Bros. will be a launch title for the upcoming console.
Citing ‘reliable’ sources, Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of Kantan Games, a Tokyo-based game industry consultancy firm, claims Bandai Namco Entertainment is working on multiple Nintendo NX titles, with Smash Bros. possibly being one of them.

Now, before you yell “fake”, consider that Toto has actually been a reliable source of Nintendo leaks in the past and was the one who revealed the company’s partnership with DeNA. Moreover, while the idea of a new Super Smash Bros. game is a bit of a head-scratcher, the idea of a compilation-style launch title for the NX actually makes sense.
Considering that Smash Bros. games are infamous for the amount of time they take to develop, it’s likely that the game will be an enhanced version of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U rather than entirely new game. Expect something along the lines of a Complete Edition featuring better graphics, more modes and all the DLC released to date.
The NX will be the definitive version of Super Smash Bros. 4.
As strongly as Toto feels he’s right, this is still a rumor that should be taken with a grain of salt. Nintendo NX rumors are a dime a dozen nowadays, so we’ll have to wait until Nintendo provides details, which should happen at E3 2016.
Nintendo Switch Release Date, Price, Games to be Revealed in January
Details of the Nintendo Switch will be revealed during an upcoming livestream on January 12, 2017.
Company president Tatsumi Kimishima said in financial briefing that Nintendo will announce the Switch’s release date and price, and highlight some of the games currently under development.
The event itself will be invite-only, restricted to selected press, analysts and partners, but gamers around the world will be able to watch it via a livestream.
Nintendo will follow-up the presentation by hosting events around the world where press, partners and consumers get a chance to play the Switch and test out its features.
The company has said there is more to Switch than shown in its reveal trailer, with recent patents suggesting an AR-capable machine.
We’ll have a better idea of what the system really has to offer come January 12. An exact start time has yet to be confirmed.
Nintendo Switch Revealed! It Will be a Hit [Video]
Nintendo has finally revealed its news video game hardware, and it is called Nintendo Switch. It releases in March 2017.
Switch is a fitting name for the project that has for the longest time been known as the Nintendo NX, but is it as cool as the “Duo” moniker that was rumored?
Nintendo seems to have learned something from its struggles with the Wii U, with the Switch marking a significant shift in its stance. The company has always been about reinvention, and this is them trying their luck once again after the dual-screen gameplay that made the DS a hit failed to translate to home machines by way of the Wii U.
Watch the announcement trailer and let us know what you think …
Confirming the slew of rumors that preceeded the system’s announcement, the Switch combines the handheld and home console businesses of Nintendo and can be used at home on a TV as a traditional home console or as a mobile gaming device that can be taken away and played anywhere like the 3DS.
This fusion is an interesting, albeit smart business move, that brings Nintendo’s first party development houses under one piece of hardware. That’s to say the company’s myriad of teams only have to create one game for a single platform that serve both purposes, saving time and money.
We can now see why the boss of Ubisoft was so giddy about it …
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be the first major Nintendo Switch game, and a new Mario and Pokemon are expected to arrive within the first few months of its launch in March 2017.
The next Sonic the Hedgehog will also release on the Switch and will be joined by such titles as Dragon Quest, Skyrim, Mario Kart, NBA 2K and Splatoon.
Judging by everyone’s reaction, the Nintendo Switch is a portable gamer’s dream come true. Are you excited for it? Will you be getting it? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
New NX Rumors Reveal Name of Nintendo’s Console… “Duo”?
Several new leaks by a large retail partner through Reddit might have revealed the official name of the Nintendo NX, as well as its pricing, features, and packaging.
It has essentially been confirmed that the NX will be a console / handheld hybrid that’s detachable. It will come with a traditional console that serves as a dock, containing the hardbdrive, cartrige slot and various other interfaces; a performance module that serves as the systems power supply, containing a lithium ion battery and the CPU / GPU; and a detachable handheld unit featuring a 6 inch, 720px screen.
According to GamesBulletinUK, the console itself will sell for $299, in line with the Xbox One S and PS4 Slim’s pricing, but a a premium bundle (contents currently unknown) costing $399 will also be available at launch. Stores should start recieving demo units around February 2017.
4k streaming will be a feature of the NX, but it will likely only be for playback of content such as Netflix and not for gaming. Many, if not most games, are expected to run at 1080p and 60fps.
Speaking of games, they will be on cartridges, lending credence to past reports. Early adopters can expect at least 4 titles, including a Mario game and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Although slightly larger, the packaging of the NX will be relatively clean and simple like the Wii U package design. It will have a white and blue color scheme compared to the Wii U’s blue and black.
Unfortunately, the area of the packages that usually depict the console were blurred and redacted by Nintendo in attempt to keep the NX hidden.
A leaked image (show above) that recently surfaced on the Internet may have revealed the console’s official name: ‘Nintendo Duo’. How does that sound considering that the NX is a console / handheld hybrid?
Nintendo has remained silent on every tidbit of alleged info on their upcoming console, so only time will tell if any of this is true. Just make sure to stay tuned to GameTribute for future developments.
