At Gamescom 2015, Microsoft announced an expansion to the Xbox Live Games with Gold program, notably that all future Xbox 360 games with Gold titles will be backwards compatible on the Xbox One.
With this announcement, fans the Xbox now only need one console to enjoy both new old games instead of requiring two.
The Xbox One backwards compatibility program has been well received by gamers and critics alike, allowing gamers to dive into their old games on the Xbox One with little to no hassle. All they have to do is download the available titles and then sit back and relax.
Undoubtedly, the fact that only future Xbox 360 games with Gold titles will be backwards compatible might limit the number of games that Microsoft will be able to select from for the Xbox Live Games with Gold program. Even so, it will ensure that those that want nothing to do with the Xbox 360 can still play them when they become available.
Xbox One backwards compatibility will be live for all gamers in November 2015. Too bad the PlayStation 4 doesn’t have something like it.
Is this the Last Console Generation?
Head of Xbox Game Marketing Aaron Greenberg made a statment during Gamescom 2016 that made a lot of gamers believe this might be the last console generation.
In an interview with Engadget, the executive spoke candidly about Project Scorpio, the ultra-powerful Xbox One that’s been the subject of confused marketing message, providing a tadbit more clarity on Microsoft’s current philosophy — just a tadbit.
“For us, we think the future is without console generations. We think that the ability to build a library, a community, to be able to iterate with the hardware — we’re making a pretty big bet on that with Project Scorpio.
“We’re basically saying, ‘This isn’t a new generation; everything you have continues forward and it works.’ We think of this as a family of devices.”
The Scorpio should not be confused with the Xbox One S, which is for intent and purposes a smaller, repackaged version of the original Xbox One that allows for 4K output. It’s a notably more powerful gaming machine that rivals the latest gaming PCs — probably the most powerful ever made.

You Control the Dragon in Scalebound
There have been many gameplay videos of Scalebound, yet an absolute answer to one question has eluded us until now: will players be able to control the main character’s dragon?
The answer is “yes”, with Scalebound’s creative producer Jean Pierre Kellams revealing to Xbox Wire during Gamescom 2016 that protagonist Drew’s ‘Dragon Link’ ability allows gamers to directly take control of his dragon, Thuban.
In an interview with the Xbox enthusiast outlet, Kellams stated:
“Using a button press, you’ll be able to switch in and out of the mode to exploit enemy weaknesses and create openings for Drew.”
Thuban is very powerful; however, switching to him leaves Drew completely vulnerable. This requires you to be strategic in how you use both characters.
Xbox Wire’s article also provides some details on Scalebound’s RPG elements, notably how players can ‘morph’ together different dragon styles to customise Thuban to your liking. Does this all sound exciting?
Scalebound releases in 2017.
The Elder Scrolls 6 Won’t be Announced for ‘Very Long Time’
Even with their development of Fallout 4 all but wrapped up, Bethesda won’t be announcing The Elder Scrolls 6 (successor to Skyrim) for a “very long time.”
In an interview with DualShockers, Bethesda’s VP of Marketing, Pete Hines, revealed that it is in fact because of the long and intensive development cycle of Fallout 4 that little work has been done on The Elder Scrolls 6.
He specifically stated that it will be a “very long time” until Bethesda even speaks about what they’ll be working on after Fallout 4.
The company will still be busy with Fallout 4 for months, if not years, after it launches, ironing out bugs and cracking out new DLC expansions. Only when all of that is done will there be a possible announcement for Elder Scrolls 6.
It doesn’t help that Bethesda always focuses on one game at time. The price we pay for top notch quality…
Fallout 4 releases for the PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 10th.
Watch The Mafia 3 Reveal Trailer
The first official trailer for Mafia III has been released, bringing back the Mafia series after an almost five-year hiatus.
With a description that reads “It’s 1968 and the rules have changed. After years in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay knows this truth: Family isn’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for,” the gorgeous CG trailer shows a seemingly vengeful Clay monologue about the importance of family.
While no gameplay is shown, a man we assume is an adversary to Clay is shown getting a serious beating. See for yourself…
Mafia II revolved around 1940’s American gangster life, featuring sharply dressed mafia-men doing what gangsters do best. From what we see, Mafia III will have a different vibe, focusing instead on an orphaned war veteran.
Let us know what you thought about the trailer and stay tuned to GameTribute for more Mafia 3 news and videos.
FIFA 16 Has FUT Draft Mode with Improved Drafting
At Gamescom 2015, EA revealed that FIFA 16 has FUT Draft Mode, which is essentially the soccer game’s version of the Draft Champions mode in Madden 16.
It is essentially a combination of the fantasy-esque mode in Madden 16 and a much improved version of FIFA’s existing Ultimate Team.
Rather than being forced to start with a completely random team that can only be enhanced with packs later on, FUT Draft Mode gives you the option to draft a team from scratch that can play locally or online.
FIFA 16 brings a host of other improvements to the pitch, including smarter defenders and goalies, new dribbling tricks, and female teams. Aggressive agility will be hallmark of the game.
EA describes FIFA 16 as a “balanced, beautiful, futbol game.” Let’s just hope it’s not all talk…
World of Warcraft Subscribers Drop Significantly
At Gamescom 2015, Blizzard announced that the number of World of Warcraft subscribers has drop to 5.6 million, the lowest in quite a while.
That’s a whopping 1.5 million lower than the 7.1 million people who were subscribed just a few months prior, which itself was a steep drop from the 10.5 million subscribers following the launch of the World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor expansion back in November 2014.
Warlords of Draenor is the fifth expansion in the long-running MMORPG, bringing to the game an increased level cap of 100, eight new five-man dungeons and two new raids. A sixth expansion is under development.
Even at 5.6 million subscribers, World of Warcraft remains the most popular MMO out there, an impressive feat considering that there numerous other MMOs on the market, many of which are free-to-play rather subscription-based.
Some fans have requested that Blizzard adopt a free-to-play model, and we image the significant reduction in subscribers is making the developer real hard about that idea.
Are you one of the 1.5 million people who un-subscribed from World of Warcraft? If so, let us know why you decided to drop the game in the comments below.
