Double Dragon is one of the most iconic games ever made, and while the series is best known as side-scrolling beat ’em up, there was actually a legit Double Dragon fighting game based in the 1994 movie.
Released for the Neo Geo CD, the movie-based fighting game was actually a well-developed and fun game that even The Angry Video Game Nerd (James) can’t help but praise. It’s apparently one of his favorite fighters of all time.
Now, James is no fighting game aficionado, but he is a gaming enthusiast who knows a thing or two about good and bad video games. Watch him play and critique the obscure Double Dragon fighting game…

Sony PlayStation Classic Mini Console Debuts With 20 Games
The original PlayStation console returns some 25 years after its initial release.
Following in the footsteps of Nintendo, Sony has developed a miniaturized version of the retro PlayStation console.
The aptly-called PlayStation Classic retains the original console’s design and button layout, original controllers (two are included in the package) and packaging, but in a shrunken, miniaturized form factor.
According to Sony, the mini-console is “45 % smaller on the sides and 80% smaller in volume” than the original and comes pre-loaded with 20 titles, including Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, and Wild Arms.
It is equipped with HDMI and USB cables, but not a USB AC adapter. Sony will sell you an adapter separately, but you can likely use any third-party adaptor so long as it meets the minimum voltage requirement.
For collectors of classic miniature consoles, the PlayStation Classic is definitely one to add to your growing collection. It retails for US$99.
You Can Now Play Double Dragon 4 On Smartphones
Smartphones get a dose of retro beat-em-up action.
Arc System Works’ Double Dragon 4 now available for iOS and Android. The game’s first mission is playable for free, while the remaining missions are locked behind a pay wall (US$4.48 on Android).
Don’t be fooled by the nostalgia-inducing retro aesthetic and background music — Double Dragon 4 is by no means an old title. It was released on PC and PlayStation 4 back in January 2018 as “Double Dragon IV” and then on the Nintendo Switch port in September.
The original creators of the Double Dragon series, namely director Yoshihisa Kishimoto, character designer Koji Ogata, composer Kazunaka Yamane, and programmer Kei Oyama, all had hand in the development of this installment, which helps explain the nostalgia-laden gameplay and sprites.
Brawlers have come a long way since the late ’80s, but for those looking to change things up a bit during your daily commutes, then give Double Dragon 4 a shot.
If the launch trailer below doesn’t help you decide between paying for the full game or uninstalling, the free first mission surely will.
