Former Strike Suit Zero developer Edge Case Games has revealed its latest title, Fractured Space — a team-based space combat game that puts players at the helm of an immense capital ship and features 5v5 matches in frantic cosmic battles.
Instead of being handed a generic battleship to call your own, you build one by choosing a manufacturer, picking out a class and using Galactic Coins to hire a crew. You can also add to your fleet by acquiring new ships.
Edge Case says Fractured Space combines the best elements of competitive PvP action with the fiction and politics of popular Sci-Fi, which it hopes will establish new frontiers for the genre. The game relies heavily on team work, requiring you to identify the enemies’ weaknesses and speculate on how to exploit them in battle.
“Fractured Space is an ambitious project we have wanted to do for quite some time, and we’re very excited to now confirm its development. Above all else, we want to transmit a sense of scale to the player – the feeling of participating in a massive space battle inside their own titanic capital ship, blasting apart enemy ships and working together with other players to achieve a common objective,” company CEO James Brooksby said in a press release.
Players will have full control over their ships. Moreover, they will be able to devise clever tactical plans that gradually bring their opponents to their knees, as well employ specific setups to their ship(s) based on their intended combat role.
Unity and Strategy — those are the two main governing factors of Fractured Space.
Fractured Space goes live on Steam Early Access near the end of 2014, before becoming a free-to-play game on the PC in 2015. Early Access Founders will be spoiled with exclusive ships, crews, boosters and ranks.
