Dragon Age Inquisition Has First Fully Gay Character from BioWare

Published

Dorian Dragon Age Inquisition

Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Dragon Age — these much-loved Bioware video game franchises are among the most progressive in the industry, allowing players to develop characters that can engage in same-sex relationships. Dragon Age Inquisition will continue that tradition, featuring a ‘fully gay’ male character as a squad mate.

Party member Dorian (pictured above) is clarified as an openly-gay character in the game, with lead writer David Gaider describing him as follows:

“Dorian is gay–he is, in fact, the first fully gay character I’ve had the opportunity to write. It added an interesting dimension to his back story, considering he comes from a place where “perfection” is the face that every mage puts on and anything that smacks of deviancy is shameful and meant to be hidden. Dorian’s refusal to play along with that façade is seen as stubborn and pointless by his family, which has contributed to his status as a pariah.”

Dorian is in fact not the first ’fully gay’ character Bioware has written, but he is the most legitimate and flushed-out. He’s sexuality is a big part of why de decides to join the player’s team.

“I suppose this aspect of Dorian will make him controversial in some corners, but I was glad to include it,” Gaider, who himself is gay, added. “It made writing Dorian a very personal experience for me, and I’m hopeful that will make him seem like a fully realized character to fans in the end.”

Dragon Age Inquisition launches on October 7 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.

It is able to show up to 120 frames per second (twice the speed of the average TV) and features a solid-state drive that allows games to load much faster than on older mechanical hard drives.

The new Xbox will be released during the 2020 holiday season, with Halo: Infinite as a launch title.

Do You Already Hate The Sonic Movie?

Real-Life Sonic Movie

The new Sonic movie trailer has everyone horrified and confused. Are you?

To the say the first official trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog film is a head-scratcher would the understatement of a lifetime. It is WACK!

We get a look at Sonic rendered in real life, as well as Jim Carrey’s Doctor Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik. If the tagline “Every hero has a genesis” is anything to go by, the movie will be an origin story for the blue hedgehog that was an integral part of our 90s gaming experience but struggles in today’s video game market.

To be honest, he looks downright creepy, which probably wouldn’t have been the case if the designers went for a cuter, more compact aesthetic like in the original 2D Sonic games.

Instead, we get scruffy, frizzy-looking creature “thing” that could easily be mistaken for an extremely lean man in a full-body costume, a man who likely skipped leg day one too many times.

Something along the line of Detective Pikachu would have definitely be more palatable, don’t you think?

If you hate Sonic’s look, enough to even be reluctant to watch the movie, you’re not alone. Reactions to the trailer have been hilarious , and the film’s official Twitter account has been swamped with thousands of responses.

So, are you happy with the direction Sega and Paramount took with the live-action Sonic movie? Let us know in the comments below.
