New N7 Day Mass Effect Andromeda Trailer is Intense, See it

Published

The new N7 Day Mass Effect Andromeda trailer that fans have been impatiently waiting for is finally here, and it’s intense.

We get to see more scripted and in-game footage of the game world, as well as ‘brother’ Ryder, his alien crew and what appears to be the main villain in action. It might have also confirmed the existence of Salarians in Andromeda.

The Andromeda Initiative recruitment page has been updated to coincide with the trailer’s release. It shows the user’s login details with the year 2184… the year just before the events of Mass Effect 2.

The Andromeda Initiative is scheduled to launch in 2185, the year Commander Shepherd returns from the dead (the beginning of Mass Effect 2). Three Ark ships, each containing three different species in cryo stasis, will leave the Milkyway for the new galaxy, with plans to wake up the occupants 600 years later.

Judging by the trailer, things don’t go according to plan.

Mass Effect Andromeda launches for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC in Spring 2017. Are you excited for the new adventure?

Say It Ain’t So, Devil May Cry 5 Has Microtransactions

Published

Devil May Cry 5 Deluxe Edition Art

The good news is that you won’t be forced to pay for anything.

For all the praise the Devil May Cry 5 TGS 2018 demo received, one new addition in particular caused a stir, and it has nothing to do with Dante’s theme song being removed because of the sexual misconduct allegation against the singer. No, the issue is much bigger.

Those who played the demo made an unfortunate discovery — Devil May Cry 5 has microtransactions. You will be able to spend real money on red orbs, which are essentially the game’s main form of currency.

In Devil May Cry 5, which are obtained by doing virtually anything from combat to breaking red clusters, can be used to upgrade your character by purchasing new skills and revive on the spot rather than being forced to do so at the last checkpoint).

You can also exchange real money for red orbs, a system that isn’t particularly new to the Devil May Cry Series and actually existed in Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition.

Fortunately, whereas some games require you to spend real money gain certain features, spending money on red orbs in Devil May Cry 5 is optional. According to Capcom, the game doles out “ample” red orbs in regular play.

“… players can purchase even more red orbs which can be used for quicker upgrades or more continues,” the publisher said. “This is completely optional as the game has been balanced to provide ample orbs for play without purchase in mind. This allows players more options to use red orbs at the pace and style they prefer to play.”

Let’s just hope for Capcom’s sake that Devil May Cry 5 doesn’t join the growing list of games ruined by microtransactions.

Are you OK with how microtransactions are applied in Dante and friends’ latest adventure? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Telltale Games Closes Down, It Was A Great Run

Walking Dead sad Clementine

It was an entertaining run for the innovative game studio.

Telltale Games, the company behind hit episodic video game titles The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Minecraft: Story Mode, Game of Thrones and Batman, has gone through “majority studio closure,” having let go of all but 25 of its 250 employees without any severance pay. It had previously laid off around 25% of the workforce in November 2017.

Company CEO Pete Hawley broke the news via Twitter, explaining that his team “ran out of time” and that their their most recent batch of good content did not translate to better sales.

The move came as a surprise even to its employees. While some spoke of the good experience they had with the studio, others couldn’t hide their disappointment, especially with regards to working conditions and compensation. Former employee Brandon Cebenka, tweeted:

I got laid off at Telltale. None of my sleepless nights or long hours on weekends trying to ship a game on time got me severance today. Don’t work overtime unless you’re paid for it, y’all. Protect your health. Companies don’t care about you.

The remaining 25 employees were retained to fulfill the comapny’s obligations, which includes the completion of the last episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, as well as Wolf Among Us 2 and Stranger Things.

EA Under Criminal Investigation For FIFA 18 Loot Boxes

Published

An insistent EA is in some hot water in Europe.

Back in April 2018, the Belgian Gaming Commission (BGC) announced that the loot boxes systems in Overwatch, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and FIFA 18 all violated the country’s anti-gambling regulations, believing that their mechanics are essentially a “game of chance.”

The BGC considers the loot boxes to be dangerous, especially since FIFA 18 is presented to children and minors. Minister of Justice Koen Geens was quoted as saying “Mixing games and gaming, especially at a young age, is dangerous for mental health.”

Blizzard and Valve have since complied with the government’s request, re-working their games accordingly. However, EA refuses to oblige, stating that their games are developed and implemented ethically and lawfully around the world.

Company CEO Andrew Wilson argued that FIFA Ultimate Team or loot boxes cannot be deemed gambling because players always receive a specified number of items in each pack, and EA doesn’t provide or authorize any way to cash out or sell items or virtual currency for real money.

According to Belgian news outlet Metro, the BGC has pushed to sue EA for their failure to remove the loot boxes, and the American publisher is under criminal investigation by the Brussels public prosecutor’s office

EA could be slapped with “a prison sentence of 5 years and a fine of up to €800,000” if prosecuted and charged, figures that will reportedly be doubled if minors are found to be affected.
