With the PlayStation 4 Pro now official, many gamers are still left wondering why the console doesn’t actually play UHD 4K Blu-rays, despite 4K content being its main selling point.
This omission is made more confounding by the fact that the cheaper, less powerful Xbox One S features a UHD 4K Blu-ray drive.
Unsurprisingly, Microsoft took this opportunity to take a few shots at the PS4 Pro, confirming that the upcoming Xbox Scorpio will also have a UHD drive.
Announced at E3 2016, the Xbox Scorpio is Microsoft’s own “mid-generation” console upgrade, and it is shaping out to be a console unlike any other — the most powerful ever, in fact.
Albert Penello, Microsoft’s senior director of product management, said he feels “pretty good about the decisions we’ve made” in an interview with Polygon. In terms of power, he is confident that Scorpio will be the most powerful console when it releases, with the power gap between it and the PS4 Pro being very obvious.
When asked if the console will have the same price as the PS4 Pro, he said:
“We know it’s important to deliver an experience that demonstrates the power gap between [the PS4 Pro and Scorpio] at a price that makes sense to console gamers.”
PlayStation 4 Pro is out this November, whereas Xbox One Scorpio comes out sometime during holiday 2017.
