PS4, Xbox One Performing A Lot Better than Xbox 360, PS3

Published

Xbox One and PS4

The PS4 and Xbox One are selling like the hotcakes, so much so that analysts at the NDP Group report they are performing relatively better than the Xbox 360 and PS3, and not just by a little…

Both current-gen consoles are selling at a faster rate than their predecessors ever did, having collectively outsold them by nearly 40 percent.

Analyst Liam Callahan stated the following on the matter:

“…after 23 months on the market, combined PS4 and Xbox One sales are 40 percent higher than the combined 23 month totals for PS3 and 360.”

While Callahan’s assessment only takes into account the U.S. market, it’s nevertheless a strong indicator of the success that both Microsoft and Sony are enjoying around the world.

Sony, in particular, is blowing the competition away with the PS4, nearly outselling the Xbox One 2 to 1 globally. The U.S. market has traditionally been a bastion for Microsoft, but even it’s being dominated by Sony.

Console war aside, the fact that both the Xbox One and PS are performing better than their predecessors is good news for gamers and for the wider video game industry. With games like Halo 5: Guardians, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Fallout 4 coming out before the end of 2015, you can bet their sales momentum will only continue.

Epic Games Store New Return Policy Allows Unlimited Refunds, But…

Published

Epic Games Store logo

Gamers get more leniency and a simplified verification process.

Epic has updated the Epic Games Store’s return policy to make it more competitive with other digital storefronts.

With the old policy, you were allowed just two refunds per year, but now everyone has unlimited refunds within 14 days of purchase and with under two hours played.

The Epic Games Store doesn’t have a “self-service” solution, at least not yet, so you will have to go through Customer Support to request a refund.

A change was also made to the verification process for receiving a refund. Customers no longer have to provide their IP address, last four digits of the card used, account creation date, and other information if the return meets the set criteria, though a contact form will still need to be used.

Epic plans to add more regional pricing options to the store. There are currently 30 different regions available, encompassing a total of 130 countries.

Street Fighter V Supports PS3 Controller, Alex is First DLC Character

Published

on

Street Fighter 5, crazy necalli

For PS3 owners wondering what to do with their old arcade stick, here is some good news: Street Fighter 5 on the PS4 supports not only PlayStation 3 controllers, but also the console’s arcade sticks. Capcom has also confirmed that the first DLC character will be non-other than Street Fighter 3rd Strike’s Alex.

Street Fight 5 releases on February 16, 2016, for the PS4 and PC with 16 characters, while the story mode is set to arrive later on in the summer as a free update. It supports cross-play between both the PS4 and PC.

Capcom made the revelation via twitter, stating “We can confirm that Alex will be the first DLC character and he will be available in March!” in one tweet and “Additionally, the final version of #StreetFighterV (on PS4) will be compatible with PS3 controllers” in another.

Alex is part of a first wave of six characters that will be added to Street Fighter V in 2016, with the other five being Ibuki, Urien, Balrog, Guile and Juri. The exact order of their release has yet to be announced.

The iconic fighting game series went through some surprising hoops to get to where it is. A development partnership with Sony made it exclusive to the PS4 (sorry, no Xbox One love) and its beta had a rocky start.

Regardless, the game is primed for action and it looks more polished than ever. Is Street Fighter 5 a must get for you this gaming generation? Let us know in the comments below.

WWE 2K16, Stone Cold

To promote the launch of WWE 2K16, 2K Sports released an awesome new trailer that will likely have many wrestling fans racing to their locale retail outlet to buy the game.

The trailer not only shows more gameplay, but also highlights the cool new features that WWE 2K16 has to offer. These include the three-man commentary booth, long list of innovative new moves, and seemingly limitless number of customizable elements that players can fiddle with.

Let’s face it, regardless of how good it is, WWE fans are going to end up buying 2K16 because it will be fun. Yes, whether or not it is plagued by the same problems as its predecessors, it has fun written all over it.

Fortunately, ‘fun’ isn’t its only selling proposition, although it is a very strong one. All the cool new gameplay additions, such as the ability to use the ropes during pinfalls and attack an opponent during their entrance; improved graphics and sound; and robust new features contribute to WWE 2K16’s allure.

Could this be the game that rejuvenates the franchise after the mixed reactions garnered by the previous year’s lacklustre effort? Only time will tell…

Minecraft Creator Regrets Being Rich After Selling Company for $2.5 Billion

Published

on

Markus Persson, Minecraft creator

For many hard-working video game developers, the idea of building a successful game and/or business and then selling it for millions, if not billions, of dollars would be a dream come true; for Minecraft creator Markus Persson, it’s been misery.

That’s right, while it’s easy to assume that developers who make untold millions from their projects — let alone just one — will be happier living the good life rather than coding away from dawn to dusk, 8 am to 11pm, Persson regrets being rich.

Back in September of 2014, Microsoft purchased Mojang AB — the Swedish video game company responsible for Minecraft — for $2.5 billion, instantly making the Swede and his business partners some of the richest people in the world.

Persson didn’t join Microsoft in order to pursue other projects, and with so much money at his disposal, he wasted no time buying an opulent, $70 million Beverly Hills mansion, complete with a 2,500 bottle wine room, a candy room, and 15 bathrooms, among other big ticket luxury items. The big man even hosted crazy parties where guests like Selena Gomez, Skrillex and Tony Hawk sometimes made appearances.

However, as he old saying goes, money can’t buy happiness…. In a series of tweets, he indicated that he has never felt more isolated in his life, with his discontent largely stemming from feeling a lack of purpose and the general uneasiness about not having to work. One tweet read…

“The problem with getting everything is you run out of reasons to keep trying, and human interaction becomes impossible due to imbalance.”

Even a party paradise like Ibiza makes him feel lonely…

“Hanging out in ibiza with a bunch of friends and partying with famous people, able to do whatever I want, and I’ve never felt more isolated.”

Life without a job is apparently not all it’s cut out to be…

“In Sweden, I will sit around and wait for my friends with jobs and families to have time to do shit, watching my reflection in the monitor.”

You’d think girls would be glued to him, but even that’s not the case…

“Found a great girl, but she’s afraid of me and my life style and went with a normal person instead.”

With so much money and time on his hands, you’d think he would help out our poor little world or create another stellar video game…

“I would Musk and try to save the world, but that just exposes me to the same type of assholes that made me sell minecraft again.”

After a few back and forth exchanges with his twitter followers and the general public, many of who didn’t feel sorry for him, it seemed Persson came to the understanding that all his feelings are quite normal for those who instantly became rich…

“People who made sudden success are telling me this is normal and will pass. That’s good to know! I guess I’ll take a shower then!”

Maybe it’s because he’s an extreme introvert trying to live the life of an extrovert that he feels so isolated…

“I really appreciate all the offers to hang and talk and all. As an introvert, new friends is hard to do even when fine, but it means a lot!”

However you look at it, Persson needs to sit down and reflect on what really matters to him in life. We have no doubt that some of his skills and wealth will find his way sooner than later.

Frankly, as an introvert myself and a struggling businessman, I would love to be in his shoes. Wouldn’t you?

Mortal Kombat X Not Coming to PS3 and Xbox 360

Published

on

Mortal Kombat X Scorpion close up

Warner Bros. has officially cancelled Mortal Kombat X for the Xbox 360 and PS3, definite bad news for Mortal Kombat fans who only own a last-gen console.

In a press release, the publisher said it came to the “regrettable conclusion that we cannot release Mortal Kombat X for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360” because the team working on the game tried its best but couldn’t meet the quality standards of the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC versions.

Hardly anyone expected the exact same quality as the current-gen versions, but even the less loft quality standards couldn’t be met.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Mortal Kombat X were slated to release in April 2015, around the same time as the Xbox One and PS4 version. However, it got delayed to summer before getting cancelled.

Warner Bros. is already on edge after the backlash their botched PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight received, so the company was in no position to take another public beating from gamers and critics.

Frankly, I don’t think it’s a big deal that a downgraded Mortal Kombat X isn’t coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360. What do you think?
